Tommy Bridges was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the potent Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox by
the score of 10 to 3 at Navin Field.

Chicago fell behind quickly as the Detroit offense came through in the first
inning when they scored 5 runs on 5 hits. That was all the offense they were
to need. Detroit rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.

Bridges(18-15) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Ted Lyons(6-15). He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered 5
hits and 1 walk.

Third baseman Marv Owen hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at Navin Field as the
Detroit Tigers beat the league door-mat Chicago White Sox in 10 innings by
the count of 7 to 6.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. Detroit was victorious in the
10th inning. Owen drew a walk. Pete Fox was next and he stroked a base-hit.
After an out was recorded, Jo-Jo White stepped up to the plate and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Ray Hayworth was the next batter,
but he struck out. Charlie Gehringer came to the plate and drew a walk
giving Detroit the victory as 22,202 happy fans celebrated wildly. Detroit
had a total of 15 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Chief Hogsett(7-3) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Phil Gallivan(3-10) was the loser in relief. He allowed 1 run and 2 hits in
1 and 2/3 innings.

First baseman Lou Gehrig ripped 2 homeruns as the New York Yankees smashed the
overmatched Philadelphia Athletics, 21 to 7.

Gehrig was really in 'the zone'. He lost the ball over the fence for three
runs in the 3rd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 6th inning and
launched a Grand Slam homerun (his 45th of the season) in the 9th inning.
New York bats were hot in the 5th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 5
hits, the 8th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning when they had 6
runs on 5 hits. New York out-hit Philadelphia for the game, 22 hits to 15.

Charlie Devens(1-0) allowed 6 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Sugar Cain(16-10) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around,
surrendering 9 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Gehrig said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'

Bruce Campbell had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the St. Louis Browns topped the
Cleveland Indians by a score of 5 to 1 at League Park.

St. Louis jumped on top of Cleveland in the top of the 2nd inning scoring one
runner using 2 hits. St. Louis had 14 hits for the afternoon while Cleveland
had 4.

The winning pitcher was Bobo Newsom(18-9) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3
innings. Ed Wells recorded the save, his 2nd. Willis Hudlin(11-15) was hit
with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 13 hits and 3
walks in 8 innings.
