One run was the difference at Yankee Stadium as the New York Yankees defeated

the Boston Red Sox 4 to 3.



New York had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning. After

two outs Babe Ruth opened up the rally as he drew a walk. Lou Gehrig stepped

up next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 43rd of

the season). Although they lost, Boston did out-hit New York 10 to 5.



Johnny Murphy(12-8) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Murphy got

help from Danny Macfayden who earned his 1st save. Spike Merena(0-1) was the

loser. He surrendered 4 runs and 5 hits in 8 innings.

Johnny Marcum tossed a complete game and Eric McNair had 3 base hits and 3 RBI

as the Philadelphia Athletics outscored the Washington Nationals 11 to

2.



Marcum(18-8) pitched a fine game. He surrendered 10 hits and 4 walks in 9

innings. Philadelphia rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.



The losing pitcher was Reese Diggs(1-1). He was hit hard and gave up 6 hits

and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Les Munns completed the game without help from the bullpen at Ebbetts Field

where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the floundering Philadelphia Phillies 7 to

5.



Munns(8-7) gave a fine effort for Brooklyn. He went 9 innings allowing 11

hits and 1 walk. Brooklyn managed 13 in their victory.



Cy Moore(3-11) suffered the loss. He pitched 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 3

walks.

One run was the difference at Ebbetts Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated

the ice-cold Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 2.



Ownie Carroll(3-3) came on to close the door tight in relief. He didn't allow

much, just 1 hit and no walks in 2 innings. Philadelphia had a chance to

come back in the 9th but they came up short.



Carroll got help from Watty Clark who earned his 1st save. Snipe Hansen(7-8)

was the losing pitcher. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Catcher Bill Delancey smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Bill Walker went 11

strong innings at Wrigley Field as the mighty St. Louis Cardinals beat the

Chicago Cubs in 11 innings 6 to 2.



The score was tied at 2 after nine. St. Louis ended up winning it in the 11th

inning. The key at-bat was by Delancey who quieted the crowd when he lofted

a three-run bomb (his 17th of the season). St. Louis had a total of 11 hits

for the game.



The winning pitcher was Walker(12-5) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Lon

Warneke(22-8) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 11 hits

in 10 and 1/3 innings.



'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Walker. 'I had

good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything

went well.'
