beat the Washington Nationals 6 to 5.







Detroit jumped on top to stay in the 6th inning plating an isolated run



utilizing 3 base hits. Detroit finished with 10 hits in the victory.







The victory went to Rowe(8-2) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. General



Crowder(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6



runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

base hits. Boston finished with 15 hits in the victory.







Ferrell(3-0), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Sam



Jones(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11



hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Johnny Broaca pitched a complete game at Yankee Stadium as the New York



Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 6 to 5.







New York won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Tony Lazzeri drew a walk.



Two outs later Broaca came to the plate and singled scoring the run. This



was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.







The victory was credited to Broaca(2-0) who went the distance, allowing 5



runs. Bob Weiland(7-3) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing



10 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.







Joe McCarthy was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of



games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can



relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'

complete game at Yankee Stadium where the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland

Ruffing(6-4) had a strong outing. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 7



hits and 2 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.56 to 3.31. New York



rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.







Lloyd Brown(3-5) ended up with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 7



innings.

Right fielder Ed Coleman ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Joe Cascarella



took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Philadelphia Athletics beat the



St. Louis Browns by a score of 6 to 4.







The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance



provided by Coleman. He laced a single in the 2nd inning, cleared the fences



for a two-run home run in the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'



(his 7th of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis had a chance to come



back in the 9th but they came up short.







Cascarella(5-3) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. The right-handed



Cascarella had his no-hit bid broken up by Rogers Hornsby who singled with



one out in the 6th inning. George Blaeholder(2-8) was given the loss.

Joe Medwick had 4 hits and 5 RBI at Sportsman's Park as the St. Louis







Cardinals beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 17 to 13.















Medwick was in a groove all day. He doubled which plated a run in the 1st







inning, slapped a base-hit in the 3rd inning, doubled clearing the bases in







the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 6th of the season) in







the 8th inning. St. Louis lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning which saw







them plate 5 runs on 5 hits and the 5th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. Due to







a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 7 different innings was still not







enough for Brooklyn to come away with the victory.















Bill Hallahan(5-3) got the win allowing 9 runs in 5 innings. Harry Smythe(0-2)







was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of







work.















'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Medwick said. 'We







played well together as a team.'

Red Lucas was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete







game and Earl Grace had 4 hits at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat







the Boston Braves 12 to 3.















Grace enjoyed a great day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit resulting in a







run in the 2nd inning, caught a hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun







(his 4th of the season) in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning and







doubled bringing in a run in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh had 19 hits for the







afternoon.















Lucas(3-5) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Ben Cantwell(2-5)







was hit with the loss. Pittsburgh scored big getting 8 runs off him in 2 and







2/3 innings.















'I felt great out there today' Grace said. 'I was seeing the ball perfectly,







and I was right on it with my swing.

The New York Giants edged the Chicago Cubs in 12 innings at Wrigley Field by







the score of 5 to 4.















The score was tied at 4 after nine. New York won the hard fought contest in







the 12th inning. Johnny Vergez slapped a single. Gus Mancuso next to the







plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Jo-Jo Moore came to







the plate and smacked a single scoring the run. Despite losing, Chicago







out-hit New York 13 to 8.















Slick Castleman(1-0) allowed 1 run in 4 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the







victory. Hi Bell earned his 4th save. Jim Weaver(1-5) was the losing pitcher







in relief.

Paul Derringer went 9 strong innings as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the







Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 1 at Crosley Field.















Derringer(5-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for







the Philadelphia batters. He didn't give up much, just 6 hits and no walks







in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.81 to 2.53. Both teams ended up with 6







on the afternoon.















Cy Moore(1-4) absorbed the loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered 6 hits







and 1 walk.

At Crosley Field, the Cincinnati faithful were treated to an intriguing







pitcher's duel. Don Brennan(4-1) finally bested his Philadelphia







counterpart, George Darrow(0-7), by the score of 2 to 1.















Brennan gave Cincinnati a solid outing. He went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 6







hits and no walks improving his ERA from 2.94 to 2.47. Philadelphia was set







down quietly in the 9th.















Dazzy Vance recorded the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Darrow. He







pitched 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 walks.
