the 9th but they came up short.







Firpo Marberry was credited with his 2nd save. Earl Whitehill(13-11) ended up



with the loss. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game,



but I thought it was nothing.' Sorrell said. 'I was lucky I got a win



because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'

the 1st inning and smacked a three-run homer (his 8th of the season) in the



6th inning. New York rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.







Gomez(17-9) went the distance for the shutout. The losing pitcher was Monte



Pearson(14-10). He allowed 5 homeruns in 5 innings of work.
