In a close game it was the Detroit Tigers 6, the Philadelphia Athletics 4 at



Shibe Park.







Detroit came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs



utilizing 2 base hits. Jo-Jo White opened up the inning nicely when he lined



a single. Mickey Cochrane was next and he drew a walk. Charlie Gehringer



then doubled bringing in two baserunners. Detroit rapped out 11 hits for the



afternoon.







Schoolboy Rowe(17-6) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.



Roy Mahaffey(5-8) suffered the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 1



walk in 1 inning.

Lefty Gomez went the distance at Yankee Stadium as the New York Yankees beat



the pitiful Chicago White Sox by the count of 10 to 2.







New York claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 4



base hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. New York had 12 hits



for the afternoon.







The winning pitcher was Gomez(18-9) who allowed 2 runs for the game. The loss



was charged to Sam Jones(10-12). He was touched for 7 hits and 3 walks in 3



innings.







This win by New York continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten



games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 66-56. With the



loss Chicago now has a record of 46-76, worst in the league.

Ruffing(11-11) looked very much in control throughout the day. He allowed



just 4 hits and 7 walks in 9 innings. New York managed 7 in their victory.







Les Tietje(5-10) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 8



innings.

Wes Ferrell had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox outscored the



Cleveland Indians 8 to 7.







Boston jumped on top of Cleveland in the 2nd inning scoring one runner



utilizing 2 base hits. Dick Porter slapped a base-hit. After an out was



recorded, Eddie Morgan came up and he drew a walk. After another out,



Ferrell stepped up to the plate and he ripped a base-knock scoring the run.



Cleveland made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the



needed runs across.







The victory was credited to Ferrell(13-5) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing



6 runs. Ferrell got relief help from Rube Walberg who gained credit for his



4th save. Oral Hildebrand(11-8) was charged with the loss. He allowed a few



too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and 8 walks in 6 innings.

Moose Solters had 3 base hits and Fritz Ostermueller completed the game



without help from the bullpen as the Boston Red Sox topped the Cleveland



Indians in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 1 at Fenway Park.







The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Boston came out the



victor in the 10th inning. After two were out Solters delivered a base-hit.



Dick Porter stepped into the batter's box and he lined a single, and an error



was also committed, giving Boston the victory as 34,280 happy fans celebrated



wildly. Boston totaled 8 on the afternoon.







Ostermueller(9-8) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Mel



Harder(12-7) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 4 walks in 9



and 2/3 innings.

Shortstop Joe Cronin had 2 base hits and Tommy Thomas tossed a complete game



as the Washington Nationals topped the St. Louis Browns by a score of 3 to 2



at Griffith Stadium.







Washington tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Washington rapped



out 7 hits for the afternoon. Thomas(7-5) finished the game allowing 2 runs



in the victory. George Blaeholder(7-16) was charged with the loss. He



allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

despite being out-hit by St. Louis 10 hits to 7.







Alex McColl earned his 8th save. Jack Knott(4-6) was charged with the loss.

Bill Delancey ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Sportsman's Park where the



very potent St. Louis Cardinals beat the reeling Brooklyn Dodgers in 11



innings 4 to 1.







The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. St. Louis came out the victor



in the 11th inning. Joe Medwick led off and he drew a walk. Rip Collins



stepped into the batter's box and he singled. Collins took second on the



throw. Delancey then belted a three-run homer (his 11th of the season)



giving St. Louis the victory and sending the 7,103 home-town fans home happy.



St. Louis had 10 hits for the afternoon.







Jesse Haines(6-3) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Van



Lingle Mungo(9-17) suffered the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 10 hits in 10

by the score of 4 to 2.







In the bottom of the 7th inning St. Louis scored 2 runs with the help of 3



hits. Leo Durocher got things going when he delivered a single. After an



out was recorded, Burgess Whitehead came up and he doubled plating a run.



Jack Rothrock then laced a single scoring the final run of the inning.



Brooklyn had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.







Dizzy Dean(16-8) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.



Les Munns(6-5) took the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 7

Fred Frankhouse(11-14) was given the loss. For Pittsburgh, the victory kept



their winning streak on the march. Pie Traynor was happy with his team's



performance of late - 'They're playing solid ball right now' he said. 'Let's



hope they can stay focused.'

separated the combatants at game's end. The mighty New York Giants won by



the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.







The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Finally, New York



pulled the game out in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Phil



Weintraub drew a walk. Jo-Jo Moore came to the plate and drew a walk. After



another out, Bill Terry came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Mel



Ott stepped in and he drew a walk scoring the run. Chicago had 12 hits in



the game while New York had 8, but New York had the more timely hits.







Dolf Luque(1-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
