Lyons(4-9) pitched a solid game. He allowed 10 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Detroit had 10 hits in the game while Chicago had 7, but Chicago had the more timely hits. Schoolboy Rowe(11-4) was charged with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings. Boston took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. Johnson led off the inning for Boston when he slapped a single. Carl Reynolds next to the plate and he drew a walk. Two outs later Lyn Lary came up and he tripled knocking home two runners. Fritz Ostermueller stepped in and he laced a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Boston had 13 hits for the game and Washington had 10. Ostermueller(6-8) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Earl Whitehill(13-7) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Boston tallied 2 runs in the 6th inning. Billy Werber got things going when he drew a walk. Eddie Morgan was next and he grounded into a double play. Roy Johnson then doubled. Carl Reynolds came up and he was walked intentionally. Moose Solters stepped into the box and reached on an error. Rick Ferrell added to the uprising and delivered a base-hit scoring two teammates. Ferrell took second on the throw. Boston and Washington each finished the afternoon with 5 hits. Rhodes(9-10) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Tommy Thomas(5-5) was the loser. St. Louis started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first as they scored 3 runs on 2 base hits. That early scoring was all that Ivy Andrews(3-7) needed. For the game St. Louis out-hit Cleveland 9 to 5. Jack Knott earned the save, his 4th. Mel Harder(10-4) was hit with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings. CLEVELAND AT ST. St. Louis took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 5th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Roy Pepper who made the crowd happy when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. St. Louis had a total of 11 hits for the game. The winning pitcher was Hadley(5-11) who allowed 4 runs for the game. Willis Hudlin(5-10) ended up with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 6 innings of work.

NEW YORK AT PHILADELPHIA Yankees......... 1 0 0 4 0 0 1 0 1 - 7 10 1 Athletics....... 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 6 - 8 12 0 Win:Wilshere(1-0) Loss:Van Atta(2-8) Homeruns- B.Johnson(28th) Bob Johnson slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia Athletics came back dramatically to top the New York Yankees by the score of 8 to 7. Philadelphia had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when they scored 6 runs on 6 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Johnson who came through for the home fans when he lashed a single scoring two baserunners. Philadelphia rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon. The victory was credited to Whitey Wilshere(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. The loss was charged to Russ Van Atta(2-8) in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 3 hits and 1 walk. Connie Mack was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Joe McCarthy, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!' Warneke(15-5) was very good in the win. He gave up just 9 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Both teams ended up with 9 on the afternoon. Paul Derringer(7-12) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 9 runs in 7 innings. ST.
