Second baseman Augie Galan cracked a homer and Lon Warneke completed the game without help from the bullpen at Braves Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the Boston Braves 6 to 4.


Chicago wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they scored 3 runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Charlie Grimm who silenced the stadium when he laced a one-base hit which was good for two runs. Boston was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.


Warneke(7-1) finished the game allowing 4 runs in the victory. Ben Cantwell(1-2) took the loss. 'He gutted it out' Grimm said of Warneke. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
