Mickey Cochrane went yard and had 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the

Washington Nationals in 12 innings 8 to 7 at Navin Field.



The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Detroit won it in the

12th inning. Charlie Gehringer stroked a base-hit. Billy Rogell next to the

plate and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Cochrane stepped in and

he slapped a one-base hit making Detroit the victor and beginning a joyous

home town celebration. Washington was out-hit by Detroit, 15 hits to 11.



Elden Auker(8-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Bobby

Burke(5-3) was hit with the loss in relief. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk

in 6 innings.

Hank Johnson was able to finish what he started and was credited with a

complete game as the Boston Red Sox outscored the hopeless Chicago White Sox

10 to 7.



Johnson(3-1) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 9 innings

surrendering 13 hits and 2 walks. Boston had 12 hits for the afternoon.



Sam Jones(6-10) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Boston,

allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Moose Solters had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Boston Red Sox topped the

hopeless Chicago White Sox by a score of 7 to 2 at Comiskey Park.



Boston jumped on top of Chicago in the 6th inning scoring 2 runners on 4 hits.

The big moment was provided by Dusty Cooke who deflated the spirits of the

home town crowd when he tripled bringing in two baserunners. The teams had

been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.



Johnny Welch(9-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing

2 runs. George Earnshaw(6-11) absorbed the loss. He gave up 10 hits and 3

walks in 8 innings.

Left fielder Myril Hoag homered at League Park where the New York Yankees beat

the Cleveland Indians 6 to 3.



Johnny Allen(3-1) pitched a fine game. He allowed 11 hits and 1 walk in 8

innings. New York banged out 11 on the afternoon. Allen got help from

Jimmie Deshong who was credited with his 3rd save. Thornton Lee(0-1) was the

loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.

Bobo Newsom allowed Rogers Hornsby to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete

game as the St. Louis Browns beat the Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 5

to 4.



St. Louis jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 7th inning plating an

isolated run on 3 hits. Sammy West hit a single. Jack Burns was next and he

laced a single. Burns took second on the throw. After an out was recorded,

Bruce Campbell stepped up to the plate and he was walked intentionally to

load the bases. Oscar Melillo was up next and he delivered a single scoring

the run. St. Louis totaled 14 on the afternoon.



Newsom(7-4) got the victory, allowing 4 runs for the game. The losing pitcher

was Sugar Cain(9-8). He was hit hard and gave up 14 hits and 2 walks in 7

innings.



'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his

best stuff,' Hornsby said after the game. 'Newsom did not have command of

his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to

pitch!'
