Bobby Burke went the distance at Griffith Stadium where the Washington

Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers 6 to 4.



Washington took the lead for good in the 5th inning scoring a single run using

2 hits. Detroit threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.



The victory was credited to Burke(3-2) who went the distance, allowing 4 runs.

Carl Fischer(3-1) was the loser. 'This was a tough loss,' said Mickey

Cochrane, 'the kind that sticks with you for awhile.'

Fritz Ostermueller pitched a complete game as the Boston Red Sox ballclub

embarrassed the Chicago White Sox by the count of 15 to 3.



Boston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they blasted

Chicago for 9 runs on 7 hits. That was all Ostermueller(2-7) needed. Boston

kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning which saw them plate 9 runs on 7

hits and the 2nd inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits. Boston banged out 20

on the afternoon.



Milt Gaston(4-6) took the loss. Boston extended their winning streak to 6

games. 'We've really come alive lately,' Bucky Harris said. 'We won some

tough games and I feel real good about this ballclub right now, and hopefully

we'll continue the roll we're on.'

Monte Pearson allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the

scoreboard for New York at Yankee Stadium as the Cleveland Indians beat the

New York Yankees 1 to 0.



Pearson(8-5) simply dominated New York. He was stingy on the mound, allowing

just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.20 to 2.91. New

York was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.



Lefty Gomez(7-7) absorbed the loss. 'Pearson gave us exactly what we needed

tonight,' Walter Johnson said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for

strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had

them chasing it.'

complete game at Sportsman's Park as the St. Louis Cardinals belted the

Delancey enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the



1st inning and ripped a solo home run (his 6th of the season) in the 5th



inning. St. Louis managed 16 in their victory.







Dean(6-3), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ray Benge(7-7)

Billy Herman started the inning off right when he reached on an error. After



an out was recorded, Chuck Klein stepped in and he drew a walk. Babe Herman*



then lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 10th of the season). New York



threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.







Bill Lee(6-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Roy Joiner



recorded the save, his 3rd. Watty Clark(2-2) was given the loss.

Ethan Allen hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the



Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings by a score of 13 to 11.







The score was tied at 11 after nine. Philadelphia won the hard fought contest



in the 10th inning. Dolph Camilli started the inning off right when he



slapped a one-base hit, and an error was also committed. Al Todd stepped up



to the plate and he laced a single, and an error was also committed, knocking



in a run. Mickey Haslin was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Bill



Lohrman was up next and he delivered a base-hit. Lou Chiozza stepped into



the box and worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the final run of



the inning. Philadelphia kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning with 5



runs on 5 hits. Philadelphia had 20 hits overall, while Cincinnati had 15.







The winning pitcher was Lohrman(4-0) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Tony



Freitas(0-5) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving



up 3 hits and no walks.
