Stone suffers potentially season ending injury in Cleveland game

Senators All Star outfielder John Stone suffered a fractured ankle in the game against the Indians. He joins the other Senators slugger, Joe Kuhel, on the disabled list. This latest injury has put the Senators' chances of repeating as AL champions in some doubt. Manager Joe Cronin insists, however, that the Washington ball club is still very much in the hunt

Tommy Bridges went the distance and second baseman Charlie Gehringer had 2
base hits at Navin Field as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees by
the count of 6 to 2.

Detroit brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning when
they had 3 base hits. They ended up being the winning runs. Detroit had 10
hits for the afternoon.

The win went to Bridges(9-8) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Red Ruffing(9-5)
was hit with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an
earned run in his 7 innings of work.

Park.

Ferrell(6-2) dominated St. Louis hitters. He gave up just 3 hits and no walks
in 9 innings improving his ERA from 2.93 to 2.56. Boston had a total of 9
hits for the game.

Dick Coffman(2-7) took the loss. He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm
hitting a good groove.' Ferrell said after the game. 'I'm ready to start
another game tomorrow!'

Shortstop Billy Knickerbocker had 3 base hits as the Cleveland Indians pulled
out a win over the Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 3 at League
Park.

The game was won by Cleveland with a run in the 9th inning. Odell Hale
doubled. Willie Kamm stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Frankie Pytlak then stroked a single making Cleveland the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration. Cleveland had 9 hits for the
afternoon.

Bob Weiland(8-5) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Lefty Stewart(3-8) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 9 hits
and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

2,372 fans were treated to a fine game at Braves Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston Braves won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston came out on
top in the 10th inning. Wally Berger drew a walk. Hal Lee followed and he
laced a base-knock. Pinky Whitney then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bill
Urbanski came up and he lined a one-base hit giving Boston the win and
sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Boston managed 10 in their
victory.

Ben Cantwell(5-5) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing
pitcher was Bill Lee(7-5). He pitched 9 and 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits
and 5 walks.

The Brooklyn Dodgers nipped the Cincinnati Reds 3 to 2 at Ebbetts Field in a
hard fought contest.

Brooklyn scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 4 base
hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. The pitchers took over
after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.

The win went to Tom Zachary(2-6) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings.
Dutch Leonard recorded his 2nd save. Benny Frey(2-9) was hit with the loss.

Fred Fitzsimmons was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Blondy Ryan had 2 base hits and 5 RBI at Polo Grounds as
the New York Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11 to 5.

Fitzsimmons(11-6) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 9 hits and 2 walks
in 9 innings. New York had a total of 14 hits for the game.

The losing pitcher was Red Lucas(6-6). He was touched for 10 hits and 3 walks
in 6 and 2/3 innings.
