Johnny Broaca was able to finish what he started and was credited with a

2.

New York did all of it's offensive work in the 4th inning with 3 runs. Frank

Crosetti kicked off the action when he doubled. Jack Saltzgaver stepped up

next and he drew a walk. Babe Ruth then drew a walk to load the bases. Lou

Gehrig came up and he drew a walk which scored a run. After an out was

recorded, George Selkirk stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk bringing

home one more runner. Tony Lazzeri added his contribution to the rally and

hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. Detroit threatened

in the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally.

The victory went to Broaca(9-4) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Tommy

Bridges(10-14) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 8

innings.

In the top of the 6th inning St. Louis scored 2 runs when they had 3 base

hits. It was enough to earn the victory. St. Louis finished with 10 hits in

the victory.

The win was credited to Hadley(7-13) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.

Rube Walberg(7-5) was the loser. He pitched 9 innings giving up 10 hits and

no walks.

Left fielder Bob Johnson slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Philadelphia

Athletics defeated the hapless Chicago White Sox in 12 innings 9 to 8 at

Shibe Park.

The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings. Philadelphia won the

hard fought contest in the 12th inning. After two outs Johnson smashed a

solo-shot out of the park (his 33rd of the season) giving Philadelphia the

victory and sending the 6,399 home-town fans home happy. Philadelphia

managed 16 in their victory.

Whitey Wilshere(2-0) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the

victory. Joe Heving(2-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. 'It's just about

getting in a good hitting position and just going out there and being

prepared,' Johnson said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not do too

much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game, and

pitch by pitch.'

7.

The victory went to Phil Gallivan(3-8) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.

The loss was charged to Bill Dietrich(9-5). He allowed 13 hits and 1 walk in

8 and 1/3 innings.

Jimmy Dykes was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office

after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just

sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating

wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,

Cincinnati Reds rallied to top Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 6 to

5.

Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 3

runs using 2 hits. After two outs Chick Hafey began things off when he hit a

bases-empty home run (his 17th of the season). Harlin Pool stepped up next

and he reached on an error. Ernie Lombardi then bombed a two-run dinger (his

5th of the season) making Cincinnati the winners and sending the 1,735 fans

home happy. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.

Don Brennan(6-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Van

Lingle Mungo(9-15) was tagged with the loss. 'That was exciting!,' Hafey

said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

runs on 6 base hits. That early run support was enough for Johnson(7-12) and

Cincinnati. Cincinnati managed 15 in their victory.

Johnny Babich(0-8) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk

in 2/3 of an inning.
