Tribe Strikes Early, Cruises in 7-1 Win
Weiland keeps Tigers' bats quiet

Bob Weiland tossed a complete game and Sam Rice hit 2 doubles as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers by a score of 7 to 1 at Navin Field. Cleveland set the tone of the game in the first inning when they scored 3 runson 2 hits. That was all Weiland(5-2) needed. Cleveland finished with 7 hits in the victory. The loss was charged to Schoolboy Rowe (5-2). He surrendered 7 runs and 7 hitsin 9 innings. The Cleveland ballclub's record now stands at 21-19. With an impressive recent record of 8-2, Detroit hopes this will only be an isolated loss - followed by another nice run.

Shortstop Red Rolfe hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the New York Yankeesdefeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 8 to 4 at Fenway Park. Johnny Murphy(4-2) had a fairly solid outing. He was reached for 9 hits and 2walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. The teams had been locked in a scoreless dueluntil the 6th inning. Murphy was helped out by Jimmie Deshong who recorded his 2nd save. LeftyGrove(3-2) ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 7hits and 4 walks.

The Boston Red Sox tallied 5 runs in the 8th inning and easily topped the New York Yankees in game 2; the final score was 9 to 2. Johnny Welch(4-1) pitched a fine game. He surrendered 6 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings, lowering his ERA from 5.02 to 4.65. New York was out-hit by Boston, 11 hits to 7. Red Ruffing(5-3) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings.

Bump Hadley completed the game without help from the bullpen and Oscar Melillo lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as the St. Louis Browns defeated the Chicago White Sox in 10 innings by a score of 8 to 4 at ComiskeyPark. The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. St. Louis won it in the10th inning. The key at-bat was by Debs Garms who deflated the crowd as he doubled bringing in two baserunners. St. Louis banged out 13 on theafternoon. Hadley(3-5), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ted Lyons(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 9and 1/3 innings of work.
