In a two run game the Boston Braves got by the Chicago Cubs by the score of 5

to 3.



Boston won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 4 hits.

Tommy Thompson led off and started the rally when he smacked a single. Hal

Lee came to the plate and doubled. Pinky Whitney then doubled driving home

two runs. For the game Boston out-hit Chicago 15 to 5.



Fred Frankhouse(6-6) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Bob Smith

earned his 4th save. The losing pitcher was Lynn Nelson(0-2) in relief.

Bill Lee tossed a complete game as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Boston Braves

7 to 3 at Wrigley Field.



Lee(5-2) gave Chicago a solid outing. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 9

innings. Chicago had 15 hits for the afternoon.



Leo Mangum(1-1) was the loser. He surrendered 7 runs and 15 hits in 7 and 2/3

innings.

Paul Dean pitched a complete game and first baseman Rip Collins went yard and

had 3 RBI as the seemingly unstoppable St. Louis Cardinals defeated the

Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 10 to 1 at Sportsman's Park.



St. Louis jumped on top of Philadelphia in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on

5 hits. That was all Dean(5-3) needed. St. Louis managed 15 in their

victory.



Curt Davis(5-6) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runs

in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Joe Stripp had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Van Lingle Mungo went the distance at

Crosley Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 6 to

1.



Brooklyn took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run

utilizing 2 base hits. Brooklyn finished with 11 hits in the victory.



The victory went to Mungo(8-7) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Ted

Kleinhans(1-2) was hit with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9

hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.



Brooklyn continued their winnings ways improving their record to 31-23. They

are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss Cincinnati now has a record

of 17-33, worst in the league.

Harlin Pool had 4 hits at Crosley Field as the Cincinnati Reds won in their

last at-bat beating the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 4 to 3.



The game was decided in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Mark

Koenig lined a one-base hit. After another out, Jim Bottomley came up and he

smacked a single. Pool then laced a base-knock resulting in an exciting win

for Cincinnati and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.

Cincinnati ended up with 17 hits for the game while Brooklyn had 12.



Dazzy Vance(1-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Dutch

Leonard(7-1) was the loser. With this win, Cincinnati has a 18-33 record.

They have been 4-6 lately. With the loss, Brooklyn has a record of 7-3

lately, 31-24 overall.

Shortstop Arky Vaughan had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates won a dandy

at Forbes Field over the New York Giants, 4 to 3.



The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was

recorded, Earl Grace drew a walk. Fred Lindstrom stepped up next and he

tripled making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home town

faithful. Pittsburgh had 11 hits overall, while New York had 8.



The win went to Waite Hoyt(4-5) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Al

Smith(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 3 innings allowing 1

hit and 2 walks.

Phil Collins closed the door on St. Louis as the Philadelphia Phillies

defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 13 to 10 at Sportsman's Park.



Bill Lohrman(3-0) pitched well enough in relief to get the win. He went 1 and

2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 walk. Lohrman got help from Collins who

pitched great and earned his 1st save.



Jesse Haines(4-1) suffered the loss in relief. By giving up 4 runs in 3

innings his ERA increased from 3.74 to 4.17.
