Goose Goslin had 4 hits and 4 RBI and Schoolboy Rowe pitched a 2 hit shutout
at Navin Field as the Detroit Tigers embarrassed the Washington Nationals by
the lopsided score of 19 to 0.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Goslin. He doubled which was good for two runs in the 1st
inning, stroked a base-hit in the 4th inning, doubled which plated a run in
the 6th inning and laced a single scoring a run in the 8th inning. Detroit
kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning when they had 8 runs on 9 hits
and the 8th inning with 7 runs on 5 hits. Detroit rapped out 21 hits for the
afternoon.

It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Rowe(20-8). Lefty Stewart(3-16) took
the loss. When asked about his strikeout total for the game, Rowe offered,
'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally up the strikeout
totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them busy this afternoon
- of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

Babe Ruth had 5 hits and 2 RBI at League Park as the New York Yankees beat the
Cleveland Indians in 12 innings by the count of 4 to 2.

The score was tied at 2 after nine. New York came out on top in the 12th
inning. Frank Crosetti got things going when he stroked a one-base hit. Red
Rolfe followed and he delivered a base-hit. Ruth then banged out a single
knocking in a run. After an out was recorded, George Selkirk came up and he
delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. New York managed
12 in their victory.

Lefty Gomez(22-9) allowed 2 runs in 11 innings, and picked up the victory.
Jimmie Deshong earned his 4th save. Bob Weiland(10-7) was the loser in
relief. He pitched 3 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 walk.

Paul Dean was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game and catcher Bill Delancey had 3 base hits as the St. Louis Cardinals
defeated the New York Giants 3 to 2 at Polo Grounds.

St. Louis took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run
utilizing 3 base hits. New York made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.

The win went to Dean(13-8) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Fred
Fitzsimmons(22-8) suffered the loss. Bill Terry was in a contemplative mood
after the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may
seem weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss.
It is the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'

Van Lingle Mungo pitched a complete game as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the
Chicago Cubs by a score of 3 to 1.

Brooklyn did all the necessary damage in the 1st inning when they tallied 3
runs on 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. The pitchers
took over after the 1st inning as neither team was able to score again.

Mungo(10-20) allowed 1 run on the game. Guy Bush(12-11) was the loser. He
surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.
