Detroit tallied 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning when they had 4 base hits. That was all the runs Rowe(16-6) needed. Detroit provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning with 3 runs on 4 hits. Detroit finished with 20 hits in the victory. Monte Weaver(9-10) was the loser. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. 'Rowe just dominated us' losing pitcher Weaver said. Cleveland never recovered after New York took the lead in the 2nd inning scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Myril Hoag who brought the crowd to their feet when he doubled plating two runs. New York managed 17 in their victory. Broaca(11-4) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. The loss was charged to Thornton Lee(2-3). He was unable to control the New York offense and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

The Philadelphia Athletics topped the St. Louis Browns by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. Philadelphia had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning. The critical plate appearance was by Ed Coleman who thrilled the crowd when he laced a one-base hit which was good for two runs. St. Louis had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The victory went to Al Benton(10-10) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs. Sugar Cain recorded the save, his 1st. Dick Coffman(4-10) was tagged with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 7 innings of work. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Benton, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.' ST. Marcum(13-7) was very good in the win. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.47 to 4.26. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia was able to put down the rally. The losing pitcher was Bobo Newsom(12-7). He pitched 7 innings and surrendered just 3 hits and 2 walks. The winning ways continue for Philadelphia. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, St. Louis is 2-8 lately and 47-70 on the year.

Boston took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning scoring one runner on 2 hits. Boston out-hit Cincinnati for the game, 12 hits to 4. Bob Brown(4-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and allowing no runs. Bob Smith earned his 7th save. Benny Frey(4-14) was the loser. Chicago took the lead off Johnny Babich in the first inning plating an isolated run on 2 hits. Brooklyn had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Bush(11-8) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. The loss was charged to Babich(0-9). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. 'You have to give Brooklyn credit, they fought us tough to the end' Charlie Grimm said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.' NEW YORK AT ST. Walker(9-3) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.72 to 2.52. St. Louis finished with just 6 hits in the victory. Roy Parmelee(6-5) was the losing pitcher. 'Walker took our guys to school' Bill Terry said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!' Pittsburgh took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Hoyt started the inning off right when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Paul Waner came up and he drew a walk. Fred Lindstrom then doubled which was good for two runs. The early run support proved sufficient for Hoyt(12-9) and Pittsburgh.
