New York won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs. After an out was recorded, Lou Gehrig keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Ruth stepped into the batter's box and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 10th of the season). New York had a total of 12 hits for the game. The victory went to Gomez(11-7) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. The loss was charged to Elden Auker(7-4) in relief. 'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Ruth said. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.' BOSTON AT ST. The St. Louis Browns topped the Boston Red Sox by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. The score was tied at 3 after nine. Finally, St. Louis pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Oscar Melillo drew a walk. Rollie Hemsley next to the plate and he drew a walk. Alan Strange then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bill McAfee was up next and he laced a one-base hit making St. Louis the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Boston had 12 hits in the game while St. Louis had 7, but St. Louis had the more timely hits. The win was credited to McAfee(1-1) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Joe Mulligan(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. The deciding run was scored by Cleveland in the bottom of the 9th. Odell Hale singled. Willie Kamm stepped into the batter's box and he doubled. Frankie Pytlak then was hit by a pitch. Johnny Burnett stepped in and he laced a base-hit making Cleveland victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Cleveland totaled 10 on the afternoon. Cuyler enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled which was good for two runs in the 3rd inning, lined a single in the 5th inning, delivered a base-hit which plated a run in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Chicago had a total of 14 hits for the game. Weaver(3-6) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Joe Bowman(2-3) ended up with the loss. Chicago scored big getting 6 runs off him in 2 and 2/3 innings. Cincinnati scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Ernie Lombardi smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season). Cincinnati finished with 14 hits while Philadelphia ended up with 9. The win went to Si Johnson(5-8) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Syl Johnson(2-4) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings giving up 3 hits and 2 walks. Chick Hafey provided much of the offense. He smashed a two-run homer (his 8th of the season) in the 1st inning, tripled resulting in a run in the 2nd inning and lashed a single in the 9th inning. Both teams finished the game with 12 hits. The victory was credited to Derringer(7-9) who went the distance, allowing 5 runs. Euel Moore(1-1) was the loser. He was knocked around by Cincinnati, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. 'He gutted it out' Bob O'Farrell said of Derringer. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.' Boston scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 8th inning. After an out was recorded, Thompson doubled. One out later, Wally Berger came up and he tripled scoring the run. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally. Bob Smith(2-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 innings and allowing no runs. Bill Swift(6-4) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. ST. Brooklyn was unable to claim the lead after St. Louis went ahead in the 4th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Pat Crawford opened up the rally as he banged out a single. Joe Medwick came to the plate and tripled knocking in a run. Rip Collins then drew a walk. Bill Delancey was up next and he would hit into a force play scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis finished with 12 hits in the victory. Walker(3-2) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Johnny Babich(0-4) was tagged with the loss. 'He came out with good stuff,' Frankie Frisch said about Walker. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch on.'
