Buck Jordan had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Huck Betts tossed a complete game as the Boston Braves defeated the New York Giants by the score of 6 to 3 at PoloGrounds. Boston scored 3 runs in the 5th inning when they had 4 base hits. The criticalplate appearance was by Jordan who quieted the crowd when he delivered abase-hit which was good for two runs. New York was set down quietly in thebottom of the 9th. Betts(3-4) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. CarlHubbell(10-2) ended up with the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up 9 hitsand no walks.

Dizzy Dean(3-7) absorbed the loss. Hesurrendered 10 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.

The struggling Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach might be looking for a new job soon. His team allowed 10 runs while Boom-Boom Beck(3-3), with reliefhelp from Tom Zachary, held Philadelphia to 1 run in a laugher. Philadelphia fell behind quickly as the Brooklyn offense came through in thefirst inning when they tallied 5 runs on 6 hits. That was all Beck needed.Brooklyn had 14 hits for the game and Philadelphia had 7. Phil Collins(4-5) was given the loss. The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 2 at Crosley Field in the first game of a double bill. Cincinnati brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 7th inningwhen they had 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Gordon Slade who brought the crowd to their feet when he banged out a single plating two runs. Pittsburgh had 14 hits in the game while Cincinnati had 11, but Cincinnati had the more timely hits. The win went to Paul Derringer (4-4) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Don Brennan earned the save, his 1st. Bill Swift(3-3) took the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 11 hits in 8 innings.
