Reds............ 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 2 3 - 7 10 2

Win:Brandt(9-13) Loss:Johnson(7-13)

Marty McManus had 5 hits and 3 RBI as the woeful Cincinnati Reds were badly

beaten by the Boston Braves, 19 to 7.

McManus provided much of the offense. He stroked a base-hit in the 2nd inning,

delivered a single bringing in a run in the 4th inning, slapped a one-base

hit which scored a run in the 5th inning, laced a base-knock in the 6th

inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 8th inning. Boston bats were hot

in the 6th inning when they had 9 runs on 8 hits. The Boston offense poured

it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Ed Brandt(9-13) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and

allowing 7 runs. The loss was charged to Si Johnson(7-13). He was unable to

control the Boston offense and allowed 10 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings.

It was a good day for St. Louis thanks to Collins. He blasted a two-run home

run in the 4th inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 32nd of the season) in the

6th inning and lashed a single in the 8th inning. New York proved to be no

trouble in the 9th.
