Hank Greenberg smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Tommy Bridges completed



the game without help from the bullpen as the Detroit Tigers ballclub



embarrassed the Cleveland Indians by the count of 15 to 1.







The Cleveland fans didn't appreciate the big day Greenberg had. He doubled in



the 1st inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning and cracked a solo



homerun (his 18th of the season) in the 6th inning. Detroit bats were very



productive in the 2nd inning with 6 runs on 6 hits. Detroit totaled 25 on



the afternoon.







Bridges(13-15) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Oral



Hildebrand(11-9) was given the loss. With this win, Detroit has a 71-56



record. They have been 7-3 lately. Cleveland has a record of 62-62 after



the loss.

In a close game the Boston Red Sox got by the Philadelphia Athletics by the



score of 6 to 4.







Boston set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner



utilizing 2 base hits. After two outs Roy Johnson doubled. Carl Reynolds



next to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit scoring the run. The



Philadelphia batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.







Johnny Welch(11-7) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Herb Pennock



gained credit for his 7th save. Whitey Wilshere(2-1) was the losing pitcher.



Boston scored big getting 6 runs off him in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Jimmie Deshong tossed a fine 3 hitter as the New York Yankees defeated the



Washington Nationals 2 to 1 at Yankee Stadium.







New York took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring one



runner. The Washington bats were silent in the 9th.







The win went to Deshong(8-6) who allowed 1 run in the game. The loss was



charged to Lefty Stewart(3-14). He allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 8 innings.

Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs in 11 innings by the score of 8 to



7 at Wrigley Field.







The score was tied at 7 after nine. Finally, St. Louis pulled the game out in



the 11th inning. Medwick tripled. Pat Malone then had one get away for a



wild pitch scoring the run. St. Louis had 13 hits for the afternoon.
