The score was tied at 4 after nine. Boston came out on top in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Billy Werber started the rally when he tripled. Almada stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a one-base hit resulting in a run. Almada took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. After another out, Dusty Cooke stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Boston had a total of 12 hits for the game. The winning pitcher was Herb Pennock(5-2) who allowed no runs in 5 innings. Bob Weiland(9-6) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 innings and surrendered 2 hits and no walks. Ruffing(13-11) gave New York a solid outing. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 10 hits and no walks in 9 innings. The Chicago batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th. CHICAGO AT NEW YORK Cubs............ 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 - 1 5 0 Giants.......... 0 0 0 2 4 2 1 1 - 10 14 3 Win:Parmelee(7-6) Loss:Lee(11-10) Homeruns- M.Ott-2(40th), R.Parmelee(2nd) Right fielder Mel Ott slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Roy Parmelee allowed Bill Terry to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Polo Grounds as the New York Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 10 to 1. Ott enjoyed a great day at the plate. Every time he came up in the latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He cracked a two-run shot in the 4th inning, laced a base-knock which plated a run in the 5th inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 40th of the season) in the 7th inning. New York rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Parmelee(7-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Bill Lee(11-10) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings. 'I felt great out there today,' Ott said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit of getting to bed on time!' PITTSBURGH AT BOSTON Pirates......... 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 7 1 Braves.......... 0 0 0 0 2 0 1 0 - 3 7 2 Win:Brandt(11-14) Loss:Birkofer(13-9) Bill Urbanski had 2 base hits and Ed Brandt completed the game without help from the bullpen as the red-hot Boston Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 3 to 2 at Braves Field. Boston took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning scoring a single run. After an out was recorded, Brandt drew a walk. Urbanski was next and he laced a one-base hit. Urbanski took second on the throw. Tommy Thompson then would ground out scoring the run. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally. The win went to Brandt(11-14) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Ralph Birkofer(13-9) ended up with the loss. With the win, Boston continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at 7 games and counting. 'We've really come alive lately,' Bill McKechnie said. 'We won some tough games and I feel real good about this ballclub right now, and hopefully we'll continue the roll we're on.' ST.
