Mel Almada had 4 hits at League Park where the Boston Red Sox beat the

Cleveland Indians in 12 innings 6 to 4.



The score was tied at 4 after nine. Boston came out on top in the 12th inning.

After an out was recorded, Billy Werber started the rally when he tripled.

Almada stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a one-base hit

resulting in a run. Almada took off for second and slid in with a stolen

base. After another out, Dusty Cooke stepped up to the plate and he reached

on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Boston had a total of 12

hits for the game.



The winning pitcher was Herb Pennock(5-2) who allowed no runs in 5 innings.

Bob Weiland(9-6) ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 3 innings and

surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

Red Ruffing racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts and Babe Ruth

lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as the New York Yankees

outscored the Chicago White Sox 5 to 4.



Ruffing(13-11) gave New York a solid outing. He was stingy on the mound,

allowing just 10 hits and no walks in 9 innings. The Chicago batters went

down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.



Ted Lyons(5-13) was tagged with the loss. Jimmy Dykes was impressed with

Ruffing and his 10 strikeouts. 'It's tough to generate runs if you can't

make contact with the ball.'
