Pete Fox had 3 base hits and 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston



Red Sox 13 to 5 at Navin Field.







Fox provided much of the offense. He stroked a single bringing in a run in



the 2nd inning, laced a one-base hit scoring a run in the 7th inning and



tripled plating two runs in the 8th inning. Detroit bats were very



productive in the 8th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits. Detroit



had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.







Chief Hogsett(5-1) allowed 1 run in 3 innings, and picked up the victory. Hank



Johnson(3-3) took the loss. He allowed 17 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Bobo Newsom allowed Rogers Hornsby to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete



game and right fielder Bruce Campbell connected with a 'big fly' and had 3



RBI as the St. Louis Browns outscored the New York Yankees 5 to 1.







In the 5th inning St. Louis scored 4 runs. The critical plate appearance was



by Campbell who thrilled the crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his 6th



of the season). St. Louis totaled 7 on the afternoon.







Newsom(8-4) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Lefty Gomez(12-8)



ended up with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Heinie Manush hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Washington Nationals topped



the Chicago White Sox by a score of 7 to 5 at Comiskey Park.







Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs



utilizing 2 base hits. Buddy Myer led off and started the rally when he



doubled. Johnny Gill stepped up to the plate and he doubled resulting in a



run. One out later, Joe Cronin came up and he worked the squeeze play to



perfection scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams totaled 13 on the



afternoon.







Jack Russell(6-3) allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the



victory. Phil Gallivan(1-7) was the loser in relief. He gave up 3 hits and



no walks in 2 innings.

the crowd when he banged out a single bringing in two baserunners. Brooklyn



threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

the combatants at game's end. The Philadelphia Phillies won by the slimmest



of margins, 4 to 3.







Philadelphia scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 8th inning with 2



runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two outs Jimmie Wilson opened up the



scoring as he cracked a solo homerun (his 5th of the season). Dick Bartell



came next and he banged out a single. Wilson then called for a steal which



was successful. Lou Chiozza followed and he drew a walk. Ethan Allen came



to the plate and laced a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Curt



Davis pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 1st save.







Phil Collins(10-7) allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.



Larry French(11-8) took the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 8

'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Hubbell. 'I had
