Detroit Opens June with a Bang in Chicago
Destroy Sox in 23-4 rout

Schoolboy Rowe (pictured) completed the game without help from the bullpen and had 4hits and 6 RBI as the Chicago White Sox were badly beaten by the DetroitTigers, 23 to 4.

Rowe had a good day at the plate. He delivered a one-base hit which scored a run in the 4th inning, stroked a base-hit scoring a run in the 7th inning, stroked a base-hit knocking in a run in the 8th inning and tripled with all three runners coming home in the 9th inning. Detroit provided plenty of action in the 7th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning which sawthem plate 7 runs on 5 hits. Detroit managed 22 in their victory.

Rowe(5-1), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ted Lyons(2-3) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around by Detroit, allowing 12 hits and 5walks in 7 innings. 'Rowe led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Tigers skipper Mickey Cochrane said.

The Boston Red Sox arrived at Union Station (pictured) this morning in the Nation's capital to open a series against the Nationals.

Left fielder Roy Johnson had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Boston Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 3. Herb Pennock (3-0), who has been performing spot relief fo the Sox this year, pitched well for Boston his first start. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Washington threatened in the 9th but theirrally came up short. General Crowder(1-3) was the loser. He allowed 5 runs and 14 hits in 6innings.

Gehrig serves notice on record book with 2 HR and 4 RBIs

First baseman Lou Gehrig (pictured) cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Jimmie Deshong allowed Joe McCarthy to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at ShibePark where the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Athletics 7 to2. Gehrig was a source of great heartache for the Philadelphia faithful all day. He just kept pounding out hits! He doubled which scored a run in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 5th inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 18th of the season) in the 7th inning.

New York won despite being out-hit by Philadelphia 11 hits to 8. The win went to Deshong(2-1) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Roy Mahaffey(0-5)was charged with the loss. 'The ball was jumping off my bat' Gehrig said.'I didn't do anything differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
