Wes Ferrell went the distance at Navin Field as the Boston Red Sox came back















dramatically to top the Detroit Tigers by the score of 5 to 3.































Boston came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs















using 5 hits. Billy Werber led off the inning for Boston when he laced a















one-base hit. Eddie Morgan stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a















base-knock. Roy Johnson then laced a base-hit knocking in a run. Carl















Reynolds stepped in and he hit a single to load the bases. Moose Solters got















his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. After another out, Lyn Lary















stepped up to the plate and he lashed a base-hit which accounted for two















additional runs. Boston managed 13 in their victory.































The victory went to Ferrell(8-3) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Elden















Auker(9-5) absorbed the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 4















walks in 8 innings.































Mickey Cochrane was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not















in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Bucky Harris will be glad to talk















about the game as long as you have questions to ask.'

at Sportsman's Park where the New York Yankees beat the St. Louis Browns by















the score of 10 to 1.































New York took the lead off Ed Wells in the first inning as they scored 4 runs















on 5 base hits. That early scoring was all that Broaca(6-3) needed. New















York dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.































Wells(2-7) was given the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3















walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. The New York ballclub's record now stands at















46-43. With this loss, St. Louis has a 4-6 record of late, 31-53 overall.

rolling when he slapped a one-base hit. Rabbit Warstler stepped up next and















he drew a walk. Charlie Berry then doubled scoring two teammates.















Philadelphia finished with 12 hits in the victory.































The winning pitcher was Roy Mahaffey(4-7) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3















innings. The loss was charged to Ralph Winegarner(1-3) in relief. He pitched















1 inning allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

Huck Betts tossed a complete game at Braves Field as the reeling Cincinnati



Reds lost a heartbreaker to Boston Braves by the score of 6 to 5.







The deciding run was scored by Boston in the 9th. Pinky Whitney slapped a



single. Whitney took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. Tommy



Thompson then laced a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Al Spohrer



stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Les Mallon came to the plate and



reached on an error making Boston the victors to the delight of the home town



faithful. Boston managed 11 in their victory.







Betts(6-7) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. Ted Kleinhans(2-4)



was the loser in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an



earned run in his 1 inning of work.

finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Braves Field



as the Boston Braves beat the floundering Cincinnati Reds 7 to 4.







Boston tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Boston banged out 9 on



the afternoon. The victory went to Smith(4-2) who went the distance allowing



4 runs. Allyn Stout(2-6) suffered the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 1 walk in
