Hal Lee touched them all and had 2 RBI at Braves Field where the Boston Braves



beat the dreadful Brooklyn Dodgers in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 3.







The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Boston won the game in the



10th inning. After an out was recorded, Bob Smith laced a base-hit. One out



later, Tommy Thompson came to the plate and delivered a single. Watty Clark



then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed ball giving Boston the



victory and sending the 3,136 home-town fans home happy. Both teams ended up



with 8 on the afternoon.







Smith(5-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no



runs. Clark(2-5) was the loser in relief.

Tommy Thompson had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Boston Braves rallied



impressively to win in dramatic style over league door-mat Brooklyn Dodgers,



6 to 5.







Boston erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2



hits. After an out was recorded, Pinky Whitney opened up the rally as he



reached on an error. Shanty Hogan stepped up next and he drew a walk. One



out later, Bill Urbanski came to the plate and drew a walk to load the bases.



Thompson came up and he lashed a single which was good for two runs. Randy



Moore stepped into the box and smacked a one-base hit making Boston



victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Boston managed 10 in



their victory.







The victory was credited to Ben Cantwell(7-7) who went 4 innings, allowing no



runs. Johnny Babich(0-11) was the losing pitcher. Cantwell and Thompson were



really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind



victory. As Bill McKechnie noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a



team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even



you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'

Crosley Field.







Lon Warneke(19-7) gave a fine effort for Chicago. He went 8 and 1/3 innings



surrendering 12 hits and 1 walk. Chicago won despite being out-hit by



Cincinnati 12 hits to 9.







Charlie Root recorded the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Benny



Frey(4-16). He pitched 8 innings allowing 9 hits and no walks.

Cincinnati fell behind quickly as the Chicago offense came through in the



first inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. Chicago finished with



14 hits in the victory.







The victory was credited to Weaver(7-7) who went the distance, allowing 4



runs. Allyn Stout(4-9) was hit with the loss. He allowed Chicago 7 runs in 6



and 2/3 innings of work.

2,896 fans were treated to a fine game at Forbes Field as only one run



separated the combatants at game's end. The Pittsburgh Pirates won by the



slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.







Pittsburgh tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 4



hits. The highlight belonged to Arky Vaughan who elicited a roar from the



hometown fans when he cracked a two-run shot (his 8th of the season). St.



Louis threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.







Larry French(15-11) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. French



was helped out by Leon Chagnon who recorded his 9th save. Paul Dean(11-8)



ended up with the loss.







'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his



best stuff,' Pie Traynor said after the game. 'French did not have command



of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to



pitch!'
