Jo-Jo White had 3 base hits as the Detroit Tigers staged a dramatic comeback

The difference in the game was the offensive outburst by Detroit in the 8th

inning as they erupted for 7 runs on 6 hits. The critical plate appearance

was by Mickey Cochrane who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when

he laced a base-hit which was good for two runs. Detroit won despite being

out-hit by St. Louis 20 hits to 15.

The win went to Schoolboy Rowe(9-2) who allowed 10 runs in the game. Jack

Knott(1-3) took the loss in relief. 'We really needed this win' said

Cochrane. 'That first drink of water at the end of a drought sure does taste

good!'

one-base hit in the 7th inning. Washington managed 11 in their victory.

Homeruns- H.Critz(4th)

Second baseman Hughie Critz jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI at

Polo Grounds as the Brooklyn Dodgers lost a heartbreaker to New York Giants

by the score of 6 to 4.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.

Gus Mancuso opened up the inning nicely when he hit a single. Jack Salveson

followed, but he was set down on strikes. Critz then bombed a two-run dinger

(his 4th of the season) resulting in an exciting win for New York and a wild

post-game celebration by the home town fans. New York had a total of 9 hits

for the game.

Salveson(5-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Tom

Zachary(1-5) was hit with the loss in relief. New York now has a record of a

league leading 42-26. Casey Stengel was pretty down after the loss. 'We've

really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or

two. That won't get it done.'

slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Larry French(8-5) had a steady outing. He surrendered 10 hits and 1 walk in 7

innings. Chicago threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Leon Chagnon recorded his 2nd save. Bud Tinning(5-3) was the loser. 'It

wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' French said.

to put down the rally.

Leo Mangum earned his 3rd save. Ed Holley(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He

was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.

In a great finish the Philadelphia Phillies came back in the top of the ninth

and held on to win over the Boston Braves by a score of 5 to 3 at Braves

Field.

Philadelphia had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using

4 hits. After an out was recorded, Dolph Camilli started the attack as he

doubled. Jimmie Wilson came next and he ripped a base-knock, and an error

was also committed, resulting in a run. Bucky Walters then doubled driving

in one more runner. One out later, Syl Johnson stepped in and he lashed a

single scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams finished the game

with 10 hits.

The victory was credited to Johnson(1-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.

Bob Brown(1-3) was tagged with the loss. Wilson was very happy after the

game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just

wouldn't give up. And did you see the fans - one minute they're laughing and

screaming down all sorts of unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute -

SILENCE! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
