First baseman Hank Greenberg hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI at League Park where

the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 10 to 8.



Detroit tallied 7 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 7 hits. They would

prove to be the difference in the contest. Cleveland had a chance to come

back in the 9th but they came up short.



Chief Hogsett(4-1) allowed 1 run in 5 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the

victory. Monte Pearson(9-6) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 9

hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.



'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Walter Johnson

said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to

take.'

Rick Ferrell slammed a homerun as the Boston Red Sox outscored the New York

Yankees in 14 innings 5 to 4.



The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Finally, Boston pulled the

game out in the 14th inning. Bill Cissell led off and started the rally when

he laced a base-knock. Billy Werber stepped up next and he drew a walk.

Eddie Morgan then drew a walk to load the bases. Roy Johnson stepped in and

he hit a deep fly plating a run. Moose Solters stepped into the box and

laced a single scoring the final run of the inning. Boston had 16 hits for

the afternoon while New York had 13.



Lefty Grove(6-3) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Russ Van

Atta(1-6) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 3

hits and 2 walks.

Jimmie Foxx jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI and Sugar Cain went

the distance at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia Athletics beat the Washington

Nationals 9 to 5.



Philadelphia came up with 5 runs in the 5th inning when they had 7 base hits.

The highlight belonged to Bob Johnson who electrified Shibe Park when he

popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 23rd of the season). Philadelphia

had a total of 15 hits for the game.



Cain(8-6) was the winner allowing 5 runs for the game. Monte Weaver(7-7) ended

up with the loss. He allowed Philadelphia 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of

Paul Waner cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at Forbes Field where the Pittsburgh

Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 7 to 5.



Cincinnati never recovered after Pittsburgh took the lead in the 7th inning

when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th,

but they were unable to push the needed runs across.



Red Lucas(5-5) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Lucas got

relief help from Heinie Meine who gained credit for his 1st save. Ted

Kleinhans(2-3) was tagged with the loss. By giving up 7 runs in 7 and 2/3

innings his ERA increased from 3.98 to 4.46.



'We won because we did the little things right.' Pie Traynor said after the

game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get

in close games we don't make mistakes.'

Guy Bush allowed Charlie Grimm to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as

the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8 to 5.



Chicago jumped out to the early lead in the first inning as they scored 4 runs

on 4 base hits. Chicago rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.



Bush(7-4) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. Bill Hallahan(5-5)

was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 4

innings.



With this win, Chicago has a 43-27 record. They have been 7-3 lately. With

the loss, the St. Louis ballclub's record is 38-30.

Boston Braves won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over New York Giants at Braves

Field pulling it out in their last at bats, 1 to 0.



The game was won by Boston with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After

two were out Buck Jordan drew a walk. Bill Urbanski next to the plate and he

drew a walk. Marty McManus then doubled resulting in a mighty exciting win

for Boston and the 1,682 home town fans in attendance. Boston and New York

each finished the afternoon with 6 hits.



Ed Brandt(5-9) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Roy Parmelee(1-1)

was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 7

walks.

highlight belonged to Paul Waner who silenced the crowd when he slapped a

base-hit plating two runs. Pittsburgh had 14 hits for the game and Brooklyn

Hoyt recorded the save, his 7th. Charlie Perkins(0-2) took the loss. He was

Reggie Grabowski(1-5) was reasonably effective in relief and got credit with

the victory. He was reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 3 innings.

Philadelphia kept the scorekeepers busy in the 8th inning which saw them

plate 6 runs on 5 hits. Philadelphia kept the pressure on throughout the

contest as they scored in 6 different innings.



Van Lingle Mungo(9-9) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the
