Johnny Marcum was able to finish what he started and was credited with a



complete game as the Philadelphia Athletics defeated the Boston Red Sox by a



score of 5 to 3 at Shibe Park.







Philadelphia came up with 2 runs in the 3rd inning with the help of 4 hits.



That early scoring was all that Marcum(11-7) needed. Boston had a chance to



come back in the 9th but they came up short.







Hank Johnson(5-4) was the losing pitcher. 'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll



take the win' Marcum said.

Billy Knickerbocker had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians beat the lifeless



Chicago White Sox in 13 innings by a score of 2 to 1.







The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Cleveland was



victorious in the 13th inning. After two outs Knickerbocker doubled. Earl



Averill was next and he stroked a single scoring the run. Despite losing,



Chicago out-hit Cleveland 12 to 9.







The win went to Ralph Winegarner(2-3) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Phil



Gallivan(2-8) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 5 innings



allowing 5 hits and 1 walk.

Johnny Murphy pitched a complete game at Griffith Stadium where the New York



Yankees beat the Washington Nationals by the score of 9 to 4.







In the top of the 2nd inning New York went on top for good scoring a single



run on 2 hits. New York managed 11 in their victory.







Murphy(7-6) allowed 4 runs on the game. Monte Weaver(8-8) was charged with the



loss. He was unable to control the New York offense and allowed 6 hits and 2



walks in 3 innings.

game at Griffith Stadium where the New York Yankees beat the Washington



Nationals 12 to 5.







In the 5th inning New York scored 4 runs when they had 3 base hits. The key



at-bat was by Frank Crosetti who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd



when he doubled with all three runners coming home. New York totaled 16 on



the afternoon.







Broaca(7-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Lefty



Stewart(3-11) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners



giving up 13 hits and 5 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.







New York now has a record of 50-52. With this loss, Washington has a 3-7



record of late, 54-49 overall.

Schoolboy Rowe allowed Mickey Cochrane to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete



game at Navin Field as the Detroit Tigers won a thriller over the St. Louis



Browns in, 4 to 3.







The game was decided in the bottom of the 9th inning. Pete Fox drew a walk.



Jo-Jo White came to the plate and slapped a one-base hit, and an error was



also committed, making Detroit the winners and sending the 21,756 fans home



happy. Detroit had 12 hits for the afternoon.







The winning pitcher was Rowe(13-5) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Jack



Knott(3-5) was hit with the loss in relief.

Hughie Critz had 2 base hits as the New York Giants beat the Brooklyn Dodgers







in 12 innings by a score of 5 to 4.















The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. New York came out on







top in the 12th inning. George Grantham lined a base-hit. Joe Bowman







stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After







another out, Critz came to the plate and smacked a single making New York the







victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Despite losing, Brooklyn







out-hit New York 16 to 8.















Bowman(3-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Watty Clark(2-3)







ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 4 hits in 4 and 2/3







innings.

Pirates won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Chicago Cubs by the







count of 6 to 5.















Pittsburgh scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 6







hits. The key at-bat was by Earl Grace who brought the crowd to their feet







when he doubled which was good for two runs. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit







Chicago 17 to 12.















The victory was credited to Ralph Birkofer(10-7) who went 1 inning, allowing 2







runs. Bill Lee(9-7) suffered the loss. 'That was exciting!,' Vaughan said.







'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

inning and hit a single plating a run in the 6th inning. Boston managed 10







in their victory.















The win went to Brandt(8-12) who allowed 1 run in the game. Euel Moore(3-4)







took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 4 and
