ST. LOUIS AT NEW YORK Cardinals....... 0 1 0  0 0 1  1 0 0  -  3  9  0 Giants.......... 0 0 0  0 0 0  0 2 0  -  2  9  1 Win:Dean(13-8) Loss:Fitzsimmons(22-8)   Paul Dean was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game and catcher Bill Delancey had 3 base hits as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Giants 3 to 2 at Polo Grounds.   St. Louis took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run utilizing 3 base hits.  New York made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.     The win went to Dean(13-8) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Fred Fitzsimmons(22-8) suffered the loss.  Bill Terry was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game.  It may seem weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!' Brooklyn did all the necessary damage in the 1st inning when they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits.  That scoring would be all that was needed.  The pitchers took over after the 1st inning as neither team was able to score again.   Mungo(10-20) allowed 1 run on the game. Guy Bush(12-11) was the loser.
