Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs using 2 hits. After two outs Chick Hafey began things off when he hit a bases-empty home run (his 17th of the season). Harlin Pool stepped up next and he reached on an error. Ernie Lombardi then bombed a two-run dinger (his 5th of the season) making Cincinnati the winners and sending the 1,735 fans home happy. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Don Brennan(6-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Van Lingle Mungo(9-15) was tagged with the loss. 'That was exciting!,' Hafey said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.' Cincinnati scored all of the necessary runs in the 1st inning as they scored 5 runs on 6 base hits. That early run support was enough for Johnson(7-12) and Cincinnati. Cincinnati managed 15 in their victory. Johnny Babich(0-8) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning.
