Gomez(15-9) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. New York finished with 7 hits in the victory. The losing pitcher was Chief Hogsett(5-3) in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and no walks in 1 inning. The New York fans didn't appreciate the big day Greenberg had. He doubled bringing in a run in the 2nd inning, belted a three-run homer (his 15th of the season) in the 6th inning and stroked a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Detroit had 10 hits for the afternoon. The victory was credited to Rowe(14-5) who went the distance, allowing 3 runs. Red Ruffing(10-9) was the loser. He surrendered 4 runs and 10 hits in 8 innings. The Detroit ballclub's record now stands at 60-50. New York will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend. ST. The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings. St. Louis came out the victor in the 16th inning. Burns banged out a single. A balk was called. Roy Pepper then delivered a base-hit scoring the run. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. Ivy Andrews(4-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Johnny Welch(9-6) suffered the loss in relief. Harder(12-4) pitched well for Cleveland in their victory. He surrendered 9 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Washington threatened in the 9th but Cleveland was able to put down the rally. Lefty Stewart(3-12) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. 'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Joe Cronin said. 'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard to take.'
