Bobby Burke went the distance at Griffith Stadium where the Washington

Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers 6 to 4.



Washington took the lead for good in the 5th inning scoring a single run using

2 hits. Detroit threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.



The victory was credited to Burke(3-2) who went the distance, allowing 4 runs.

Carl Fischer(3-1) was the loser. 'This was a tough loss,' said Mickey

Cochrane, 'the kind that sticks with you for awhile.'

Fritz Ostermueller pitched a complete game as the Boston Red Sox ballclub

embarrassed the Chicago White Sox by the count of 15 to 3.



Boston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they blasted

Chicago for 9 runs on 7 hits. That was all Ostermueller(2-7) needed. Boston

kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning which saw them plate 9 runs on 7

hits and the 2nd inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits. Boston banged out 20

on the afternoon.



Milt Gaston(4-6) took the loss. Boston extended their winning streak to 6

games. 'We've really come alive lately,' Bucky Harris said. 'We won some

tough games and I feel real good about this ballclub right now, and hopefully

we'll continue the roll we're on.'

Monte Pearson allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the

scoreboard for New York at Yankee Stadium as the Cleveland Indians beat the

New York Yankees 1 to 0.



Pearson(8-5) simply dominated New York. He was stingy on the mound, allowing

just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.20 to 2.91. New

York was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.



Lefty Gomez(7-7) absorbed the loss. 'Pearson gave us exactly what we needed

tonight,' Walter Johnson said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for

strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had

them chasing it.'
