Bill Delancey ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Sportsman's Park where the



very potent St. Louis Cardinals beat the reeling Brooklyn Dodgers in 11



innings 4 to 1.







The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. St. Louis came out the victor



in the 11th inning. Joe Medwick led off and he drew a walk. Rip Collins



stepped into the batter's box and he singled. Collins took second on the



throw. Delancey then belted a three-run homer (his 11th of the season)



giving St. Louis the victory and sending the 7,103 home-town fans home happy.



St. Louis had 10 hits for the afternoon.







Jesse Haines(6-3) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. Van



Lingle Mungo(9-17) suffered the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 10 hits in 10



innings.

In a close game the St. Louis Cardinals got by the slumping Brooklyn Dodgers



by the score of 4 to 2.







In the bottom of the 7th inning St. Louis scored 2 runs with the help of 3



hits. Leo Durocher got things going when he delivered a single. After an



out was recorded, Burgess Whitehead came up and he doubled plating a run.



Jack Rothrock then laced a single scoring the final run of the inning.



Brooklyn had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.







Dizzy Dean(16-8) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.



Les Munns(6-5) took the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 7



innings.

Red Lucas had a strong outing and Arky Vaughan had 2 base hits as the



blistering-hot Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the Boston Braves 7 to



1.







Lucas(8-8) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 6 hits and



no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.91. Pittsburgh rapped out 9 hits



for the afternoon.







Fred Frankhouse(11-14) was given the loss. For Pittsburgh, the victory kept



their winning streak on the march. Pie Traynor was happy with his team's



performance of late - 'They're playing solid ball right now' he said. 'Let's



hope they can stay focused.'

24,911 fans were treated to a fine game at Wrigley Field as only one run



separated the combatants at game's end. The mighty New York Giants won by



the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.







The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Finally, New York



pulled the game out in the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Phil



Weintraub drew a walk. Jo-Jo Moore came to the plate and drew a walk. After



another out, Bill Terry came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Mel



Ott stepped in and he drew a walk scoring the run. Chicago had 12 hits in



the game while New York had 8, but New York had the more timely hits.







Dolf Luque(1-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no



runs. Bud Tinning(6-7) suffered the loss in relief.

and third baseman Bucky Walters had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia



Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 10 to 3.







Davis(11-11) earned his pay with a solid performance for Philadelphia. He



went 9 innings allowing 12 hits and no walks. Philadelphia finished with 15



hits in the victory.







Paul Derringer(9-14) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving



up 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Allyn Stout tossed a complete game as the Cincinnati Reds topped the



Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 1 at Crosley



Field.







The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Cincinnati came out the victor



in the 10th inning. Jimmy Shevlin reached on an error. Tony Piet stepped



into the batter's box and he reached on an error. Gordon Slade then banged



out a single to load the bases. Mark Koenig stepped in and he laced a



base-hit resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and a raucous post-game



celebration by the home town fans. Cincinnati totaled 8 on the afternoon.







Stout(4-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. The losing



pitcher was Phil Collins(12-11). He allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 9 innings.
