Schoolboy Rowe went the distance at Griffith Stadium where the Detroit Tigers



beat the Washington Nationals 6 to 5.







Detroit jumped on top to stay in the 6th inning plating an isolated run



utilizing 3 base hits. Detroit finished with 10 hits in the victory.







The victory went to Rowe(8-2) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. General



Crowder(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6



runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Boston took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning as they scored 2 runs on 3



base hits. Boston finished with 15 hits in the victory.







Ferrell(3-0), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Sam



Jones(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11



hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Johnny Broaca pitched a complete game at Yankee Stadium as the New York



Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 6 to 5.







New York won the game with a run in the 8th inning. Tony Lazzeri drew a walk.



Two outs later Broaca came to the plate and singled scoring the run. This



was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.







The victory was credited to Broaca(2-0) who went the distance, allowing 5



runs. Bob Weiland(7-3) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing



10 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.







Joe McCarthy was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of



games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can



relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'

Red Ruffing was able to finish what he started and was credited with a



complete game at Yankee Stadium where the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland



Indians 4 to 1.







Ruffing(6-4) had a strong outing. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 7



hits and 2 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.56 to 3.31. New York



rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.







Lloyd Brown(3-5) ended up with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 9 hits in 7



innings.

Right fielder Ed Coleman ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Joe Cascarella



took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Philadelphia Athletics beat the



St. Louis Browns by a score of 6 to 4.







The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance



provided by Coleman. He laced a single in the 2nd inning, cleared the fences



for a two-run home run in the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'



(his 7th of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis had a chance to come



back in the 9th but they came up short.







Cascarella(5-3) was the winner allowing 4 runs for the game. The right-handed



Cascarella had his no-hit bid broken up by Rogers Hornsby who singled with



one out in the 6th inning. George Blaeholder(2-8) was given the loss.
