Rip Collins went deep and had 5 RBI and Paul Dean held Pittsburgh to 2 hits at
Sportsman's Park where the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by
the score of 6 to 1.

Collins helped send the fans home happy. He doubled clearing the bases in the
3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 37th of the season) in the 8th
inning. St. Louis had a total of 11 hits for the game.

The winning pitcher was Dean(15-9) who allowed 1 run for the game. Waite
Hoyt(16-11) was given the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

The sizzling New York Giants defeated the reeling Philadelphia Phillies in 10
innings by a score of 7 to 4 at Polo Grounds.

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. New York won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Gus Mancuso
began the New York spurt when he lashed a single. Blondy Ryan stepped up
next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Lefty O'Doul then was walked
intentionally. Jo-Jo Moore followed and he clubbed a three-run home run (his
12th of the season) making New York the winners and sending the 10,644 fans
home happy. New York finished with 9 hits in the victory.

Carl Hubbell(24-9) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Euel
Moore(6-11) was the loser. He pitched 9 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 9
hits and 7 walks.

Johnny Babich pitched a complete game as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the
Boston Braves in 12 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at Ebbetts Field.

The score was tied at 4 after nine. Brooklyn was victorious in the 12th
inning. Tony Cuccinello led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
Danny Taylor stepped up next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded,
Al Lopez came to the plate and banged out a single which scored a run. Lopez
took second on the throw. After another out, Buzz Boyle stepped in and he
was walked intentionally to load the bases. Lonny Frey stepped into the box
and drew a walk making Brooklyn the winners and sending the 1,304 fans home
happy. Both teams finished the game with 9 hits.

The victory went to Babich(1-12) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. Ed
Brandt(11-16) took the loss in relief. He gave up 1 hit and 3 walks in 3
innings.
