Cubs beat the Boston Braves by the score of 5 to 3.

Bill Lee(12-10) had a solid outing for Chicago. He went 8 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 12 hits and 2 walks. Boston made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Lee got relief help from Bud Tinning who gained credit for his 4th save. Ed
Brandt(11-15) suffered the loss. He pitched 9 innings and surrendered 10
hits and 3 walks.

The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 77-57. Boston has a record of
59-75 after the loss.

Second baseman Jimmy Jordan collected 2 extra-base hits and had 4 RBI as the
Cincinnati Reds were badly beaten by the Brooklyn Dodgers, 14 to 2.

Brooklyn wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 6
runs on 5 base hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Brooklyn
had 16 hits for the game and Cincinnati had 10.

Dutch Leonard(12-5) allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Lee Grissom(0-1) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 5 hits
and 2 walks in 1/3 of an inning.

of 3 to 1 at Polo Grounds.

Swift(10-9) was very good in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Pittsburgh rapped out 12 hits for the
afternoon.

Roy Parmelee(7-7) took the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 8 hits and 4

Left fielder Joe Medwick lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI and
Tex Carleton went the distance at Baker Bowl where the St. Louis Cardinals
beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 7 to 2.

Medwick was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 14th of the
season) in the 3rd inning, delivered a single in the 5th inning and doubled
knocking in a run in the 8th inning. St. Louis totaled 17 on the afternoon.

The win was credited to Carleton(19-6) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Syl Johnson(4-6) took the loss. He gave up 15 hits and no walks in 7

Jim Mooney recorded his 2nd save. Cy Moore(3-10) was the loser in relief. He
allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 2 innings.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Jimmie Wilson 'but it's losing the close
