Homeruns- R.Johnson(6th), E.Morgan(5th)

Roy Johnson went deep and had 3 RBI at Navin Field where the Boston Red Sox

beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 11 to 10.

Johnson enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He doubled which scored a run in the

1st inning, smashed a two-run homer (his 6th of the season) in the 6th inning

and doubled in the 8th inning. Detroit threatened in the 9th but their rally

came up short.

Gordon Rhodes(13-12) was the winner allowing 8 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Joe

Mulligan recorded the save, his 2nd. Elden Auker(14-8) was the losing

pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.

'This was a tough loss,' said Mickey Cochrane, 'the kind that sticks with you

for awhile.'

reached for 5 hits and no walks in 8 innings and served up 2 'big flies'.

Philadelphia had 13 hits overall, while Cleveland had 7.

Ralph Winegarner(3-5) was tagged with the loss. He was unable to control the

Philadelphia offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

pathetic Chicago White Sox 5 to 4.

Russell(9-5) pitched a fine game. He went 9 innings surrendering 8 hits and 3

walks and allowed 2 gopher balls. Chicago had a chance in the 9th but they

the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more

fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks

me off!'
