Gomez(16-9) put on a good performance. He gave up just 4 hits and 6 walks in

Vic Sorrell(6-7) was tagged with the loss. He was not very effective,

George Selkirk opened up the inning nicely when he lined a one-base hit.







Lazzeri stepped up next and he doubled, and an error was also committed,

St. Louis was unable to recover after Boston went ahead in the bottom of the







3rd inning when they tallied 3 runs on 4 hits. The critical plate appearance







was by Roy Johnson who brought the crowd to their feet when he lined a







base-hit which was good for two runs. Boston finished with 10 hits in the







victory.















Wes Ferrell(12-4) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Ferrell







got relief help from Fritz Ostermueller who gained credit for his 5th save.







The loss was charged to Bobo Newsom(11-6). He surrendered 5 runs and 8 hits







in 6 innings.

The Cleveland Indians came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the







anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 4 to







3.















Cleveland jumped on top of Washington in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs







utilizing 3 base hits. Willie Kamm led off the inning for Cleveland when he







slapped a base-hit. Bob Seeds was next and he stroked a single. Moe Berg







then ripped a base-knock bringing in a run. One out later, Milt Galatzer







stepped in and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.







Cleveland finished with 8 hits in the victory.















The victory went to Oral Hildebrand(10-7) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing







3 runs. Lloyd Brown recorded his 1st save. Earl Whitehill(13-10) was hit







with the loss.















The winning ways continue for Cleveland. They now have a record of 8-2 in







recent days. With the loss Washington now has a record of 56-53.
