Kiki Cuyler had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Jim Weaver took a no-hitter into the







6th inning as the Chicago Cubs won at Wrigley Field in dramatic fashion over







the Boston Braves, the final score, 3 to 2.















The game was won by Chicago with a run in the 9th inning. Billy Herman drew a







walk. Two outs later Cuyler came to the plate and slapped a base-hit giving







Chicago the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Chicago totaled







12 on the afternoon.















Weaver(6-7) allowed 2 runs on the game. The right-handed Weaver had his







no-hit bid broken up by Bill Urbanski who singled with two outs in the 6th







inning. Huck Betts(7-10) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard,







allowing 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

Dutch Leonard pitched a 3 hitter at Crosley Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers







beat the hapless Cincinnati Reds 5 to 1.















Leonard(10-3) simply dominated Cincinnati. He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk







in 9 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team







was able to score again.















Larry Benton(0-2) was charged with the loss. Casey Stengel was just happy to







get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get







the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind







of baseball of which we are capable.'

Traynor who made the crowd come alive when he tripled plating two runs. New







York threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
