Rip Collins hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at Sportsman's Park where the St.



Louis Cardinals beat the Boston Braves 12 to 7.







Jesse Haines(5-3) pitched in relief and was credited with the victory. He



surrendered 6 hits and no walks in 5 innings. St. Louis banged out 18 on the



afternoon.







Ben Cantwell(6-7) took the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 17 hits and



4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. St. Louis continued their winnings ways



improving their record to 68-45. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With



the loss, the Boston ballclub's record is 49-64.

Paul Waner lofted one into the 'cheap seats' at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh



Pirates staged a comeback win over the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 4 to



3.







Pittsburgh had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2



runs on 3 hits. Waner got things going when he tripled. Fred Lindstrom came



to the plate and laced a one-base hit plating a run. Arky Vaughan then



doubled. Gus Suhr came up and he would hit into a fielders choice making



Pittsburgh victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Although



they lost, Brooklyn did out-hit Pittsburgh 12 to 7.







Bill Swift(8-8) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Watty



Clark(2-4) suffered the loss in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in



perseverance for you,' Waner noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a



while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And



it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'

Jo-Jo Moore hit 3 doubles and had 2 RBI as the potent New York Giants defeated



the woeful Cincinnati Reds 8 to 4 at Crosley Field.







New York promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating an isolated



run utilizing 2 base hits. New York had 17 hits overall, while Cincinnati



had 9.







Fred Fitzsimmons(19-6) got the win allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Tony



Freitas(4-10) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering



5 runs in 3 innings.







With this win, New York has a league leading 72-43 record. They have been 6-4



lately. With the loss Cincinnati now has a record of 42-72, worst in the



league.

Pat Malone was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete



game and Tuck Stainback had 3 base hits as the Chicago Cubs defeated the



Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 7 to 2 at Wrigley Field.







Chicago brought 3 runs across the plate in the 5th inning with the help of 3



hits. The key at-bat was by Kiki Cuyler who came through for the home fans



when he banged out a single bringing in two baserunners. Chicago managed 11



in their victory.







Malone(10-8), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Snipe



Hansen(6-6) was hit with the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up 9 hits and



4 walks.
