Bob Johnson launched 3 homeruns at Shibe Park as the Philadelphia Athleticsbeat the Detroit Tigers in 11 innings 17 to 16. The game was deadlocked at 16 after nine full innings. Philadelphia wasvictorious in the 11th inning. Johnson smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his18th of the season) making Philadelphia the winners and sending the 12,098fans home happy. Philadelphia provided plenty of action in the 7th inningwhich saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits. Philadelphia finished with 25 hits inthe victory. The winning pitcher was Sugar Cain(7-6) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. LukeHamlin(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He served up 3 gopher balls in 2innings.

Right fielder Dick Porter had 2 base hits and Wes Ferrell completed the gamewithout help from the bullpen as the Boston Red Sox defeated the ClevelandIndians by the score of 6 to 4 at Fenway Park. Ferrell(5-2) delivered a fine performance for Boston. He went 9 inningssurrendering 8 hits and 4 walks. Boston had 11 hits for the afternoon. Mel Harder(8-3) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3walks in 7 innings.

Red Ruffing carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the New York Yankeestopped the reeling Chicago White Sox by a score of 4 to 0 at YankeeStadium. Ruffing(7-4) was very good in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowingjust 3 hits and 6 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.31 to 3.02.The right-handed Ruffing lost his chance for a no-hitter when Sam Jonessingled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Neither team managed to scoreafter the 4th inning. Jones(5-7) took the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.

Bobo Newsom allowed Rogers Hornsby to rest his bullpen, tossing a completegame as the St. Louis Browns defeated the Washington Nationals 4 to 1 atGriffith Stadium. St. Louis brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning. St.Louis had 8 hits for the afternoon. The win went to Newsom(6-4) who allowed1 run in the game. Lefty Stewart(3-6) ended up with the loss.
