Euel Moore pitched a complete game as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the



Boston Braves by a score of 7 to 5.







Philadelphia brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning



when they had 3 base hits. Jimmie Wilson led off and he banged out a single.



Moore was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Dick Bartell then slapped



a base-hit which scored a run. Lou Chiozza stepped in and he slapped a



one-base hit. Ethan Allen came to the plate and reached on an error bringing



home one more runner. Johnny Moore added to the uprising and hit a deep fly



scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia had 13 hits for the



afternoon.







Moore(1-0) allowed 5 runs on the game. Dick Barrett(1-4) was given the loss.



He allowed Philadelphia 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work. Philadelphia



continued their winnings ways improving their record to 34-43. They are 8-2



in their last ten games. With the loss, Boston has a record of 4-6 lately,



30-46 overall.

as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the reeling Cincinnati Reds by the score



of 5 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.







St. Louis came up with 2 runs in the 5th inning. St. Louis banged out 12 on



the afternoon. The winning pitcher was Dean(9-7) who allowed 3 runs for the



game. The loss was charged to Paul Derringer(5-9). He allowed 3 homeruns in



8 innings of work.

Rip Collins had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Paul Dean was able to finish what he



started and was credited with a complete game at Sportsman's Park where the



St. Louis Cardinals beat the ice-cold Cincinnati Reds 7 to 1.







St. Louis claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring 4 runners on 4



hits. That early scoring was all that Dean(7-4) needed. St. Louis finished



with 12 hits in the victory.







Benny Frey(2-8) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 8 hits



and 1 walk. The St. Louis ballclub's record now stands at 43-31. Not able to



get much going in recent weeks, Cincinnati is 1-9 of late and now has an



overall record of 26-46, worst in the league.

6,284 fans watched an exciting game at Ebbetts Field. The Brooklyn Dodgers



topped the New York Giants by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.







The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Brooklyn came out on



top in the 11th inning. Hack Wilson doubled. After an out was recorded,



Lonny Frey came to the plate and drew a walk. Les Munns then reached on an



error. Len Koenecke followed and he reached on an error making Brooklyn the



winners and sending the 6,284 fans home happy. Brooklyn out-hit New York for



the game, 10 hits to 5.







Munns(5-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Al Smith(2-4) absorbed



the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an



earned run in his 2 innings of work.

Lee(7-4) delivered a fine performance for Chicago. He was reached for 6 hits



and 2 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 4.20 to 3.98. Chicago had a



total of 8 hits for the game.







Larry French(9-6) was given the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 8



innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates nipped the Chicago Cubs 3 to 2 at Wrigley Field in a



hard fought contest.







The deciding run was scored by Pittsburgh in the top of the 9th. After an out



was recorded, Tommy Thevenow reached on an error. Lavagetto got a great jump



and stole second easily. Woody Jensen then hit a single scoring the run.



Pittsburgh had only 6 hits for the game.







The victory was credited to Hal Smith(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no



runs. Jim Weaver(2-6) took the loss. He pitched 9 innings allowing only 6



hits and 1 walk.







Pittsburgh continued their winnings ways improving their record to 40-31.



They are 9-1 in their last ten games. With the loss Chicago now has a record



of 45-31.
