Detroit Tigers 4 to 3.















Detroit surrendered all of the runs St. Louis needed in the 3rd inning scoring







4 runners on 4 hits. That early run support was enough for Ivy Andrews(2-6)







and St. Louis. Overall St. Louis out-hit Detroit 6 to 3.















Bobo Newsom earned his 2nd save. Tommy Bridges(8-8) was the loser. He







pitched 7 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 7 walks. St. Louis now has a







record of 24-45. With this loss, Detroit has a 7-3 record of late, 44-31







overall.

Charlie Berry had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Philadelphia Athletics topped the







Boston Red Sox by a score of 13 to 6 at Fenway Park.















Philadelphia started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half







of the first when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to







Bing Miller who deflated the crowd as he doubled with all three runners







coming home. For the game Philadelphia out-hit Boston 15 to 11.















Sugar Cain(9-6) allowed 5 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the







victory. Gordon Rhodes(6-10) was charged with the loss. His ERA ballooned







from 4.73 to 5.28 as he allowed 8 runs in 1 inning.

Lefty Gomez allowed just 3 hits as the New York Yankees defeated the







Washington Nationals in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 3 at Yankee







Stadium.















The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. New York won the hard fought







contest in the 10th inning. After two outs Babe Ruth drew a walk. Lou







Gehrig stepped up next and he drew a walk. Ben Chapman then lined a single







giving New York the victory as 33,770 happy fans celebrated wildly. New York







had a total of 11 hits for the game.















Gomez(10-7) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Bob Kline(3-1)







suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 1 and 2/3







innings.















With this win, New York has a 38-34 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With







the loss, the Washington ballclub's record is 42-34.
