George Blaeholder completed the game without help from the bullpen and Jack
Burns had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the St. Louis Browns defeated the Detroit
Tigers by a score of 5 to 3 at Navin Field.
St. Louis came up with 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning with the help of 3
hits. Rollie Hemsley started the inning off right when he doubled. Alan
Strange came to the plate and delivered a single. Blaeholder then laid down
a sacrifice bunt. Harlond Clift was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Sammy West stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the
bases. Burns added to the rally and doubled driving home two runs. St.
Louis managed 10 in their victory.
The win was credited to Blaeholder(6-8) who went the whole way allowing 3
runs. Firpo Marberry(5-8) was tagged with the loss. 'I just wanted to give
my team a chance to win.' said Blaeholder, 'I got burned on a couple of
pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Willis Hudlin allowed Walter Johnson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Cleveland Indians topped the slumping Chicago White Sox by a
score of 6 to 3 at League Park.
In the 5th inning Cleveland went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.
The key at-bat was by Hal Trosky who thrilled the crowd when he smashed a
two-run homer (his 12th of the season). Cleveland took care of Chicago with
no trouble in the 9th.
Hudlin(5-6) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Sam
Jones(6-9) was given the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 7 hits in 8
innings.
The Cleveland ballclub's record now stands at 36-36. Jimmy Dykes was pretty
down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something
like 1-9 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
