Braves win at Polo Grounds
Defeat Giants in 7-5 win

Fred Frankhouse (pictured) went the distance and Buck Jordan smacked 2 triples as the Boston Braves outscored the New York Giants 7 to 5. Boston scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits.The big moment was provided by Wally Berger who quieted the crowd when he blasted a two-run home run (his 8th of the season). Boston finished with 14 hits in the victory. The winning pitcher was Frankhouse(5-5) who allowed 5 runs for the game. Fred Fitzsimmons(7-4) was the loser. He allowed Boston 6 runs in 5 innings of work.

Dutch Leonard went 9 strong innings and Al Lopez touched them all and had 2 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the reeling Philadelphia Phillies by ascore of 5 to 2 at the Baker Bowl. Philadelphia was unable to claim the lead after Brooklyn went ahead in the 2nd inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Lopez who quieted the crowd when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 4th of the season). The Philadelphia offense proved no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. Leonard (6-0) allowed 2 runs on the game. George Darrow (0-4) took the loss.'

Rip Collins cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeatedthe Chicago Cubs 8 to 3 at Sportsman's Park. St. Louis set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 3 runson 3 base hits. The big moment was provided by Collins who elicited a roarfrom the hometown fans when he belted a three-run homer (his 10th of theseason). St. Louis out-hit Chicago for the game, 15 hits to 9. Bill Hallahan(3-3) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 5 innings. Bill Walkergot the save, his 1st. Jim Weaver(0-3) was given the loss. He was touchedfor 13 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Ted Kleinhans came through with a solid 9 innings as the Cincinnati Reds beatthe Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 0. Cincinnati took the lead for keeps in the 4th inning scoring one runnerutilizing 2 base hits. Cincinnati banged out 8 on the afternoon. Kleinhans(1-1) went the distance for the shutout. The losing pitcher was RedLucas(2-5). 'Kleinhans was the man today,' Bob O'Farrell said. 'He had justabout every pitch working.'
