Yankee Outfield Crashes Into St. Louis Outfield Wall
Combs Sustains Life Threatening Injuries

Yankee Outfielder Earle Combs ran full throttle into the center field wall at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis yesterday during their game with the St. Louis Browns. Combs fractured a skull and tore muscles in his right shoulder said a spokesman at the St. Louis hospital where he was admitted. After being admitted, Combs slipped into a coma. Combs, known as "the Kentucky Colonel," to teammates and fans, has played for New York since coming up in 1924. The next year, 1925, he earned a starting role in the Yankees lineup and has rarely missed a game until this point. BT

Editors note: Combs was done for the season. He would only play one more year in the major leagues.
