Win:Kleinhans(2-2) Loss:Smith(1-2)

Homeruns- C.Hafey(6th)

Ted Kleinhans shutout Boston while allowing the Cincinnati bullpen a day-off

as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Boston Braves by the score of 1 to 0 at

Crosley Field.

Kleinhans(2-2) looked very much in control throughout the day. He allowed

just 7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.98. Boston

threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Bob Smith(1-2) was given the loss. He allowed just 1 run and 5 hits in 8

innings. Bill McKechnie was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really

hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have

won that one. That is what really ticks me off!'

Guy Bush threw a complete game shutout and Babe Herman* had 2 base hits at

Wrigley Field where the Chicago Cubs beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the score

of 5 to 0.

Bush(6-4) put on a good performance. He didn't give up much, just 7 hits and

2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.25 to 3.84. Chicago totaled 8

on the afternoon.

Les Munns(4-2) took the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 8 innings.

Win:Davis(6-7) Loss:French(7-5)

Homeruns- J.Moore(5th), J.Wilson(4th)

Johnny Moore hit for the cycle and Curt Davis allowed Jimmie Wilson to rest

his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Philadelphia Phillies destroyed

the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 17 to 3 at Forbes Field.

Moore provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 3rd inning, quieted the

crowd by clouting a Grand Slam (his 5th of the season) in the 6th inning,

tripled plating two runs in the 7th inning and singled in the 9th inning.

Philadelphia bats were very productive in the 6th inning with 5 runs on 3

hits and the 7th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits. Philadelphia managed

20 in their victory.

The win was credited to Davis(6-7) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.

Larry French(7-5) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the

Philadelphia offense and allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Moore was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball

real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off.

That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes along.'

Ted Lyons tossed a shutout as the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees

by a score of 2 to 0.

Chicago came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs

utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Frenchy Uhalt opened up

the rally as he lined a base-hit. Mule Haas stepped up to the plate and he

drew a walk. Al Simmons then stroked a one-base hit scoring a run. Zeke

Bonura followed and he lashed a single scoring the final run of the inning.

New York proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

Lyons(3-7) went the distance for the shutout. Danny Macfayden(1-7) suffered

the loss. 'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed. Man alive, things were

getting awfully grim,' noted Jimmy Dykes. 'Now, we need to string a bunch of

wins together and turn things around!'

unstoppable Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians in 14 innings by the

score of 9 to 8.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Finally, Boston pulled the

game out in the 14th inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by Rube Walberg

who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he laced a base-knock which

was good for two runs. Boston bats were hot in the 14th inning when they had

4 runs on 5 hits. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead

changed hands 5 times.

The victory was credited to Walberg(6-1) who went 3 innings, allowing 3 runs.

Lloyd Brown(3-6) was the loser in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning
