Offense Dominates Giants' Win in St. Louis
Hubbell and Daffy Dean give way to powerful offenses

New York (NL) 11 17 1
St. Louis (NL) 5 12 1

Fans who paid their $1.25 to sit in the outfield at Sportsman's Park were expecting a closely fought pitching duel between two of the game's finest pitchers. Instead, what they got were offensive fireworks as the teams combined for 16 runs and 29 hits.

Giants right fielder Lefty O'Doul cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Carl Hubbell allowed Bill Terry to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game. O'Doul was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning. A bigger surprise was the offense of Giants'catcher Paul Richards (pictured). Richards garnered 3 hits, including a double, and kicked in three runs himself. New York simply wore out the St. Louis pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

The victory went to Hubbell (6-0) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. The losing pitcher was Paul Dean(2-2). He allowed a few too many baserunners, giving up 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. 'It wasn't my usual outing, said Hubbell, buy the guys bailed me out,' he said with a smile. Hubbell has now started, won and completed six games.

Ray Benge (pictured) completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 6 to 2 at Wrigley Field. Brooklyn brought 4 runs across the plate in the top of the 3rd inning. That early run support was enough for Benge(3-2) and Brooklyn. Brooklyn rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon. Roy Joiner (0-1) suffered the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. The two teams will play again tomorrow in the fourth and last game of their series at Wrigley.
