Pinky Whitney hit 2 doubles and scored 3 times and Huck Betts tossed a fine 3



hitter as the Boston Braves defeated the woeful Cincinnati Reds 3 to 1 at



Braves Field.







Betts(9-11) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Cincinnati



hitters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9



innings. Boston finished with 7 hits in the victory.







Allyn Stout(5-10) was the loser. 'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was



a good win for us' said Bill McKechnie, 'Maybe this will put us back on



track.'

First baseman Gus Suhr had 4 hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the



Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 8 to 4 at Baker Bowl.







Pittsburgh scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits.



They ended up being the winning runs. Pittsburgh banged out 12 on the



afternoon.







Larry French(16-12) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Curt



Davis(12-13) was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings giving

innings. Pittsburgh kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they

Euel Moore(6-9) ended up with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12
