Ray Benge whitewashed Cincinnati on 3 hits and Joe Stripp hit 2 doubles as the

Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 4 to 0 at

Ebbetts Field.

Benge(12-15) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the

Cincinnati batters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9

innings. Brooklyn finished with 9 hits in the victory.

Paul Derringer(10-15) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 9

hits in 8 innings. Chuck Dressen lamented, 'Benge was really aggressive

today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our

separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Reds were finally

were able to get back on the winner's track and won by the slimmest of

margins, 3 to 2.

Cincinnati scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning. The critical plate

appearance was by Gordon Slade who disappointed the partisan crowd when he

banged out a single which was good for two runs. Brooklyn had 11 hits in the

game while Cincinnati had 8, but Cincinnati had the more timely hits.

Benny Frey(5-16) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Whitey Wistert was

credited with his 1st save. Van Lingle Mungo(9-20) ended up with the loss.

French(15-12), by the score of 1 to 0.

The game's lone run was scored in the 7th inning. Mel Ott doubled. Travis

Jackson came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Blondy Ryan then lined

much of the offense for the visitors. He smacked a single scoring a run in

the 3rd inning and rifled a three-run blast (his 13th of the season) in the

4th inning. St. Louis provided plenty of action in the 4th inning with 6

runs on 5 hits. St. Louis had many opportunities throughout the game and

scored in 6 separate innings.

The victory went to Dean(12-8) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Euel

Moore(6-8) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around by St. Louis,

runners on 2 hits. St. Louis managed 14 in their victory.

Walker(11-4) allowed 4 runs on the game. Curt Davis(12-12) took the loss. He

innings.

St. Louis continued their winnings ways improving their record to a league

leading 84-48. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss, the

Philadelphia ballclub's record is 56-73.
